The proposal presented intends to counteract the stigmatization and social segregation that often exists in cost-controlled housing areas, in order to offer the Lordelo neighborhood quality, inclusive housing, with surrounding urban spaces that break social and urban segregation, since the intervention site in the Lordelo neighborhood has a densely built housing environment, emphasizing the need for inclusive urbanism and a quality built environment that promotes spaces for social interaction between the existing community and the community to attract the settlement.

The project sought to outline new dynamics for the place, opening and inviting the nearby community to enjoy the public spaces of the landscaped surroundings, in a way to make the new population that it intends to attract and the current resident population interact with, breaking down social and economic barriers and cultural, through these common spaces.

From the most recent experiences and studies, in accordance with the current situation of a global pandemic that has transformed the way we live in our homes, there is a need for a private outdoor space in each dwelling. It was decided right from the start that this need would have to be emphasized and a design that would allow the existence of balconies with sufficient area to remain in place, while maintaining the limits of the Gross Construction Area.

All fires above the ground floor have balconies with the possibility of implementing garden areas. These balconies provide a piece of exterior to each apartment, leading the resident to “leave” the house to have contact with the outside and with the surrounding nature. After all, these balconies are themselves another compartment in the house where a plurality of everyday actions also take place: meals, sunbathing, moments of leisure, socializing, moments of pause, contemplation, gardening, among others .

On these balconies that vary in depth, there is the possibility for each resident to implement garden areas that can be different from each other, as they arise according to the needs of each owner, as shown in the diagram below.

We would like to present the study of our new and exciting project in Lisbon! This project consists of an intervention in two adjacent buildings, both in Art Deco style, despite being distinct.

The challenge of this project was to create an “unique project”, that is, a “single property”. And the strategy we adopted to unify these two buildings was through materiality and color.

Spatially, we created a new entrance hall with a courtyard between the two buildings, that is, in the pre-existing void.

In the roof proposal of this building rehabilitation, we proposed two new single-family residences, both with a garden terrace.

To standardize the buildings at the pedestrian level, a canopy was created on the ground level.

In a perspective of revitalizing the urban space, it was sought that the proposal would be inserted in the existing urban fabric, in order to constitute a structuring element in the place, where the central road axis is emphasized, while at the same time incorporating the surroundings and also the elements closest to the intervention area – the school to the north, the “Bairro Amarelo” to the east, and the green spaces belonging to the IHRU to the south and west.

It was important that the project managed to connect structural places such as the Maria Lamas Municipal Library, the Municipal Swimming Pool, the park between these two buildings, to the south, and the Monte de Caparica Integrated Basic School and Kindergarten, to the north, through a project not only architectural but also urban. It is intended to connect all garden areas, while offering quality housing and bringing a new identity to the place.

The project sought to trace new dynamics to the place, opening and inviting the nearby community to enjoy the proposed quality public spaces, in a way to make the new population that it intends to attract and the current resident population interact with, breaking down social and economic barriers and cultural, through a common space of reference.

On a well-marked vertical axis, the north-south slope provides relatively unobstructed views, offering each apartment a good exposure to the sun. Due to the accentuated topography, the entrances to each building are level, so that it is possible to have a smooth access and another by stairs. Each building is, therefore, at a different level, which makes the project dynamic as soon as it is implemented.

There are 3 key elements that make up the project:

1 – the creation of a module, whose repetition defines the structural mesh of all buildings;

2 – the addition of a skin that also obeys a rule of fullness and emptiness, which involves the modules and defines the facade of the buildings;

3 – the relationship between the built and the surroundings, between the built and the natural.

The rhythm created in the buildings contaminates urban life, allowing for a multiplicity of actions in the urban space itself.

A layer of vegetation embraces the building itself, allowing for privacy to the one-story dwellings, as it increases the distance between pedestrian and resident, in addition to providing a qualified urban presence, with thoughtful and visually appealing green spaces.

This is our proposal for the RF10 house, a Pombaline apartment in the historic center of Lisbon.

In this project the social area of the house intends to be fully integrated. Consequently, the entire environment becomes one big single common space.

Since the residents had a large collection of books, a glass library above the kitchen is proposed, as it was also a structural wall.

Coming soon!

Since we have been spending more time at home, we decided to share different ways of living your space. We will start by the kitchen, and this is one of the proposals we did for this design. The intention was to create an inviting and cozy corner for a very special family.

In order to design an optimised kitchen for this space we decided to create a wide and central circulation, which allowed us to explore an eating area in the corner of the kitchen connected to the patio.

The neutral palette allows for the light to transform the space along the day giving life to the chosen materials. The wood brings warmth to the project and with it we designed an integrated banquette. Lastly, to allow for a better function of the booth we also designed a table with a central leg.
