Lordelo Social Housing
Porto, Portugal
The proposal presented intends to counteract the stigmatization and social segregation that often exists in cost-controlled housing areas, in order to offer the Lordelo neighborhood quality, inclusive housing, with surrounding urban spaces that break social and urban segregation, since the intervention site in the Lordelo neighborhood has a densely built housing environment, emphasizing the need for inclusive urbanism and a quality built environment that promotes spaces for social interaction between the existing community and the community to attract the settlement.
The project sought to outline new dynamics for the place, opening and inviting the nearby community to enjoy the public spaces of the landscaped surroundings, in a way to make the new population that it intends to attract and the current resident population interact with, breaking down social and economic barriers and cultural, through these common spaces.
From the most recent experiences and studies, in accordance with the current situation of a global pandemic that has transformed the way we live in our homes, there is a need for a private outdoor space in each dwelling. It was decided right from the start that this need would have to be emphasized and a design that would allow the existence of balconies with sufficient area to remain in place, while maintaining the limits of the Gross Construction Area.
All fires above the ground floor have balconies with the possibility of implementing garden areas. These balconies provide a piece of exterior to each apartment, leading the resident to “leave” the house to have contact with the outside and with the surrounding nature. After all, these balconies are themselves another compartment in the house where a plurality of everyday actions also take place: meals, sunbathing, moments of leisure, socializing, moments of pause, contemplation, gardening, among others .
On these balconies that vary in depth, there is the possibility for each resident to implement garden areas that can be different from each other, as they arise according to the needs of each owner, as shown in the diagram below.
